Essential Oils Test – Real Life Essential Oils

Essential Oils Test – Real Life Essential Oils

So, this morning I woke to find my sinuses clogged and a tickle in my throat. And as crazy as it may sound, I got excited to put the doTERRA Essential Oils to the test (again) and show how quickly I can eliminate the cold / flu symptoms I am experiencing.

I started simply by blowing my nose to check and make sure I wasn’t just congested from a nights sleep. Still feeling the pressure in my sinuses, I got started choosing Essential Oils.

On GuardThere are several oils I wanted to get started on right away. First, a blend called On Guard. On Guard is a Protective Blend of oils containing  Wild Orange, Clove Bud, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary. It is intended for Aromatic, Topical and Internal Use.  Be aware when using topically, as there may be skin sensitivity.

Since I loaned out my Diffuser over the weekend (more on that later), I resolved to use the On Guard Topically,  Internally and Aromatically(when possible). I started by putting a couple drops of On Guard in the palm of my hand, rubbing my hands together, then cupping my hands over my nose and taking several deep breaths. I then added a few more drops and rubbed it onto the soles of my feet. There is a very good reason for doing it this way. All of the doTERRA Essential Oils are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade meaning each batch has gone through a rigid independent testing and certification process to ensure they are 100% pure. The oils are also lipophilic, which means they are quickly absorbed by lipids (aka fat) in the body. The sole of the foot is essentially a fat pad and is also one of the most porous parts of the body. As a result, rubbing Essential Oils on the soles of the feet is one of the fastest and most effective ways to get Essential Oils into the body. Pretty Cool!  I also added a couple drops of OnGuard to my water which I quickly drank and moved on to my next oils.

To further open my sinuses ( I was already feeling the benefits of the OnGuard) I opened up Breathe – Respiratory Blend. And both put 2 drops in the palm my hand, rubbed my hands together, cupped my hands over my nose and inhaled and added a couple more drops which I rubbed onto my feet.  To top it off, I added a drop of peppermint to my herbal tea and inhaled the vapors before drinking it down. Keep in mind that one drop of doTERRA Peppermint is equivalent to the peppermint in 28 cups of peppermint tea. It finished opening my sinuses and since I love the smell and taste of peppermint, it was a great addition to the herbal tea.

So, here’s the plan. I’m going to continue using the oils and will update this post over the next day and let you know how it goes. I already know what the results will be, but it’s fun to put it to the test and so quickly and easily achieve amazing results.

Thanks for following along. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about these essential oils and I look forward to talking with you soon.

Citrus Bliss Essential Oil

Citrus Bliss Essential Oil

Citrus BlissCitrus Bliss is best described by me as my “Happy Place”. It is a Blend of the following Essential Oils: Wild Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit, Mandarin, Bergamot, Tangerine, Clementine and Vanilla Absolute.

For those of you reading this right now, I wish you could get a smell of this amazing Essential Oil.  And, if you are interested, please feel free to contact me and we can discuss ways to get you a sample.

So, what does it smell like? The closest thing I can think of is the essence of an Orange Creamsicle.  It’s what made being a kid fun as I would wait for the ice cream truck and get my favorite summer treat.

This blend does so much more than just smell good. It is calming and elevating, can disinfect surfaces, kills airborn pathogens, strengthens the immune system, and much more. Some people even add a few drops to brownie mix. But my favorite use is in a diffuser. Not only does it smell great, it also cleans and purifies the air. There is a reason it is call the Invigorating Blend. After using this Essential Oil, I feel uplifted and ready to go.

Welcome to my little piece of heaven…

Breathe Essential Oil

Breathe Essential Oil – Respiratory Blend

This blend of Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils is my favorite and the one that has made the biggest impact in my daily use.

To give you some history, Breathe is the first doTERRA Essential Oil that I had the opportunity to use. I was sick at the time and had difficulty breathing. It was at the point where I was willing to try anything to find some relief to the symptoms I was experiencing. I put a few drops in my hand and rubbed it on my chest to get started. I also put it on my feet (more on that to come) and spent a few minutes smelling the oil from the bottle.  The results came quickly as my sinuses opened up and I felt relief for the first time in days. From that time forward I have included Breathe into my daily life. It is exactly as it is named – A blend of oils to aid Breathing.

DoTERRA Breathe is a Respiratory Blend of 6 Essential Oils. They are:

  • Laurel Leaf
  • Peppermint
  • Eucalyptus radiata
  • Ravensara
  • Melaleuca alternifolia and
  • Lemon

It is suggested for Aromatic use and Topically when diluted as there is possible skin sensitivity.

The downside of sharing essential oils over the internet is that I have no way of opening the bottle and letting you experience each oil for yourself. However, I invite you to contact me and we can discuss ways to get you a sample so you can experience the incredible quality and powerful healing benefits of these oils. I look forward to sharing them with you.

I Voted

I Voted! Life is not all about Essential Oils. So, on a personal note, I went and exercised my right to vote. It’s great to see the way the social media is getting behind people participating. I even got a prize on foursquare for checking in.

Using Essential Oils – Essential Oil Use

Using Essential Oils – Essential Oil Use

How do I use Essential Oils?
That was one of my first questions and it’s a great place to start. There are 3 main ways we use Essential Oils:  Aromatically, Topically and Internally.

  • Aromatic Use – Diffuse Oils into a room to Affect Mood, Cleanse the Air, and Open Airways.
  • Topical Use – Apply directly to the skin for whole body and targeted results.
  • Internal Use – Some oils may be taken internally and have a wealth of health benefits as a daily supplement or to target specific body systems.

Oils UseAs I discuss my own results with various oils, I will discuss applications and methods of use and potential targeted results. For safety, keep essential oils out of the eyes, ears and nose. Some oils need to be diluted because of skin sensitivity and some oils when taken internally are best taken in a capsule. This is all part of working toward having the best possible results.

CPTG – Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade

CPTG – Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils

Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade

The essential oils that bear this certification have gone through a rigorous testing process and have been independently certified to be the purist essential oils available.

There are four different groups that essential oils fall into: Synthetic Grade, Food Grade, Therapeutic Grade and Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade™.

  • Synthetic Grade: These are perfumes and other industrial grade oils. Includes Perfumes, Candles, Hair and Body Products.
  • Food Grade: Food Grade Oils can contain synthetics, pesticides, fertilizers, chemical or synthetic extenders or carrier oils. To qualify as Food Grade they must meet the National Food Safety Standard known as G.R.A.S. (Generally Regarded As Safe)
  • Therapeutic Grade: These oils must pass a higher standard of testing by passing a Gas Chromatograph test. To pass USDA standards, they are only required to be 52% pure, at which point they can label them as 100% pure.
The Gas Chromatograph Test misses several important points:

    • It does NOT distinguish if the compounds in the essential oil are natural or synthetic.
    • It does NOT measure the proportions of different compounds in the essential oil.
    • It does NOT identify if there are any unwanted compounds contained in the essential oil.
  • CPTG – Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade™: These Oils have undergone additional independent testing with Mass Spectrometry which tests for each of the 3 points that were missing in the Gas Chromatograph test. Each and every batch of doTERRA Essential Oils have gone through this rigorous independent testing process to ensure that the oils are the pinnacle of purity and quality.

The following chart demonstrates the difference in oils available on the market.
Oil GradesOnly the smallest percentage of Essential Oils meet the quality standards to be considered Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade™.

Along this road to better and healthier living, I chose to use doTERRA Essential Oils. They are the only oils that meets this highest standard of quality and testing. And since I plan on using the oils in lots of areas of my life, I decided it would be best to use the best oils available.

  • PURE—100% natural, no artificial ingredients, fragrances, or fillers
  • SAFE—Certified to be free of pesticides and other chemical residues
  • POTENT—Standardized active compounds

dōTERRA (CPTG) Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® essential oils represent the safest, purest, and most beneficial essential oils available today. They are gently and skillfully distilled from plants that have been patiently harvested at the perfect moment by experienced growers from around the world for ideal extract composition and efficacy.

Essential Oils – What are Essential Oils?

I want to begin with a quick view of essential oils.

What are Essential Oils?

  • Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants.Peppermint Oil
  • Very Concentrated
  • 50-70% More Powerful than herbs.
  • Essential oils have been used throughout history in many cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits.

This microscopic image shows the Essential Oil on a Peppermint Leaf.

While there are many grades of essential oils, the purest oils (CPTG) have a clean/crisp feel to them. It’s important to know the quality of the oils if they are going to be used on or in the body.
